What Has Brought Us to This Stage?

Subject to meeting the full conditions of a Memorandum of Understanding, First Baptist Church will sell our current facility to the City of Smyrna for $15,800,000. First Baptist will purchase 5.5 acres of land on Atlanta Road from the City of Smyrna for $3,300,000. During Construction and until premises are vacated, First Baptist will pay the City of Smyrna $300,000 to lease the present church campus.

After our vote on August 27, 2023, the motion passed 59% to 41%. From that result, we have entered into a time of planning and due diligence that will run through the first part of 2024.

Who is David Schoendorf? Who are American Community Builders?

David Schoendorf is our Owner’s Representative and the Principal of American Community Builders (a construction management firm). He represents our requirements and interests to vendors, initiating proposals, managing their work, and helping us stay on budget and on time. He also offers wisdom and decades of experience in the industry that will help us make wise decisions.

Who is David Smith?

David Smith is a retired Pastor and a Consultant who has worked extensively with our staff to analyze the current usage of our building and ministries. His analysis will be reviewed by the Transition Team and the architect and will be used to inform the design needs of our new building.

Who is Jeff Warwick?

Jeff Warwick is an experienced investor and developer who has been working in the state of Georgia for many years. Jeff was recommended to us by the Georgia Baptist Convention. He has a heart for Baptist churches across Georgia and is an active member of FBC Atlanta. He leverages his experience and resources to aid in development efforts that further the Lord’s work through the church and GBC ministries. He has been contracted to work with Smyrna First and support us through this transaction.
