Devotional Meditation
“It is finished!”
Jesus bowed His head, breathed His last.
The earth quaked.
The tombs opened.
The dead came to life.
The veil tore in two.
The past 33 years had led to this moment.
The moment when a large curtain was no longer needed to separate the sinner from a Holy God.
The moment when no longer would a consistent animal sacrifice be needed for the forgiveness of sins.
The moment when the New Covenant was ushered in by the sacrifice of our God on a cross.
Jesus, YHWH in human form, had come to live perfectly in our stead and die our death that we might know intimately our God, the One True God, YHWH, and live life with Him!
But why? Why would He do this?
Why would the Creator of the Universe, Maker of all things, come as a human to die for those who had rejected Him?
For the joy set before Him. Because of His love for us.
Not just you, not just me, but us! His church, His bride, the people He has set apart before there was yet time to bring honor and glory to His Name among the nations.
Jesus did it for us.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the gift of a Suffering Savior. Thank You for sending Jesus to come, live a perfect life and die the death we deserve. Thank You for the salvation You freely give us. Thank You that You secured that salvation for us through Your death on the cross. Thank You for loving us so much that You came for us. Help us to live in light of what You have done and to glorify You among the nations. Help us to live in unity that we might show the world the beauty of who You are as we take Your Gospel, Your saving grace to a lost and dying world. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
